Picturesque perambulations with pubs!
Not everyone needs persuasion to don their walking boots and get out for a stomp, but the carrot-dangle of a decent pub along the way does seem to motivate even the most sloth-like among us. If you have a reluctant walker in your life, why not suggest one of these wonderful walks as they all either wander past or to a proper pub, perfect for a refreshing beverage or two!
🥾 Mawgan Porth to St Mawgan🍺 The Falcon
This lovely walk takes you from the popular beach at Mawgan Porth through the Lanerne Valley to St Mawgan, a pretty village nestled in the woods. Boasting an eclectic mix of an 800-year-old cloistered convent, a Japanese Garden and a mediaeval church, this picturesque village has a busy community life. Stop off at The Falcon Inn and enjoy a moment in their gorgeous beer garden before heading back through the meadows towards the beach.
🥾Rock to St Minver 🍺 The Pityme inn Sharps Brewery Bluntrock Brewery
This might be the perfect walk for the person that likes more than one drink, as there are several options for a tipple on this 10k wander. Start off strolling across the dunes of Daymar Bay, coming across the once-buried church of St Enodoc before you climb Brea Hill and head inland across the fields towards St Minver. Sharps Brewery and Bluntrock Brewery both have their breweries and taprooms here, so it’s the perfect place for beer lovers as you can try a plethora of beers straight from the cellar door. The village also has a great pub, The Pityme Inn, where you can get some proper pub grub before getting back on the road. Wander back through Rock to your starting point and walk off those delicious beers!!
🥾West Pentire and Polly Joke 🍺 Bowgie Inn
Park up at West Pentire and stroll around the headland and through the poppy fields towards Polly Joke, a delightfully quiet beach flanked by cliffs and dunes. Follow the path inland before heading back towards your starting point, and the delightful Bowgie Inn. Boasting some of the best pub views ever, this popular spot has long been a favourite of surfers, walkers and anyone who appreciates a lovely place for a pint.
🥾Padstow to Harbour Cove 🍺 The Golden Lion The Shipwrights
Start at Padstow’s harbour heart and follow the streets through the old town up to Prideaux Place, before heading out of town on the winding country lanes. Take a right at Tregirls Farm (a great place for a pit stop, check out the café and deli counter!) and continue out to the coast, picking up the Southwest Coast Path as it meanders up the estuary. You will find yourself back in Padstow, with a plethora of pubs to choose from, all of which will welcome you on for a restorative pint or two.
🥾Lost Church and Perranporth Dunes 🍺 The Watering Hole
Another option for a shorter stroll, this 3.6-mile wander takes you through the dunes above Perranporth beach, home to St Piran’s Oratory and the St Piran’s Cross, thought to be over 1000 years old. Although this is a shorter walk, the old leg muscles will come into play as you scale Penhale Sands, the tallest sand dunes in Britain. Make your way back to the beach and head to The Watering Hole, the only bar and live music venue in the UK to actually be built on the beach. A unique setting to recuperate with a drink, this busy bar is a magical place for a sundowner and a spot of people watching.
🥾 Polzeath to St Enodoc Church 🍺 The Oystercatcher
If you fancy a shorter walk that still takes you past the famous buried church of St Enodoc, this 3.7-mile stroll will get you there. From a starting point in Polzeath, you make your way along the coast path to Daymar Bay and head up into the dunes behind Brea Hill, where you will find the church nestled between the dunes and the golf course. Hop on the footpaths back to Polzeath and quench your thirst at The Oystercatcher, where food and drinks are served all day, overlooking the bay.
